My life long goal is to assist those who are struggling with mental health disease everyday of their lives. After working at the YMCA Safe Place and doing part of my practicum at Phoenix Health Services, I'm convinced that treating mental illness can lead to a holistic healing of many people's lives. Many times if mental health issues can be treated, then those people will have a better chance at having stable housing, nutrition, health, and basic needs. While at the YMCA Safe Place I have met many young people who are struggling to learn and control their depression, PTSD, Bi-polar disorder, or their ODD. The best thing for them is early intervention, and counseling to teach them self-awareness and how to live with their disease. This is why I am currently working on my Master's in Clinical Counseling and receiving my LPCC. I hope to use the many experiences I'm having professionally and my studies to one day work at a licensed counselor with this population.

Youth WorkerYmca Safe Place Dec 2012 - PresentThe YMCA Safe Place is an emergency crisis shelter for teenagers. My job is to first and foremost look after the teenagers and meet their basic everyday needs. This would include making sure all youth have food, clothing, and a place to sleep. After this I am there for the youth when they need someone to listen and provide wise counsel regarding their many different situations.Beyond my actual time with the youth, I am in charge of answering and directing all calls that come in to the Safe Place program building. It is also my responsibility to perform intake paperwork when a case manager is not available. At the Safe Place we are required to send statistics on a variety of aspect involving out youth to different organization including the state. I spend time collecting and inputing this data into our computer system.

My job was to make sure the store was stocked with enough school spirit apparel for the University's growing fan base.I was in charge of ordering the insignia items within a set budget. This involved keeping track of what the student and community population were looking for when shopping for school apparel. Also, it was important to consider the demographic of our clientele, and how much they would be willing to spend when coming into the store. When the apparel arrived in store it was my job to make sure it was all checked in and placed on the floor. This required organizing the merchandise within a very limited space. At the end of every year my partner and I must submit to management a statement stating how much my department spent, and how much we sold. We would then determine how much money our department would need for another fiscal year.
