Associate Director Of First Year Experience
CurrentProgram Administration & ManagementProvides leadership and oversight for implementation of the First Year Experience (FYE) Program, including learning communities and first year programs, with a concentrated focus on improving success for provisionally admitted student groups.Works closely with the Executive Director of Retention Initiatives to advance college priorities for improved student persistence and a transformed first-year experience.Coordinates, supervises and evaluates the teaching of multiple three credit hour First Year Experience courses designed to aid students in building academic competencies and increase major exploration. Designs, organizes, and implements an annual First Year Student Convocation & Annual Class Photo that welcomes over 1800 freshman students to the campus. Provides targeted outreach to over 1800 freshman students to aid in the transition from high school to college.Serves as a current member of the UAB Blazer Core Curriculum committee 2022-2024Develop and implement holistic activities, programs and services including but not limited to remove the holds event, first time registration, and academic, cultural, and social focused activities creating a sense of belonging on campus. Works with faculty to develop a comprehensive professional development training plan for First Year Instructors.Develops, assesses, and revises syllabi, common assignments, and rubrics for First-Year Experience courses.Proficient in the creation, design, and launch of multiple UAB first year and career preparation courses. Creates monthly campus events dedicated toward student-to-student interaction and increased sense of belonging on campus. Collaborates with appropriate departments to develop, implement, and promote FYE’s Initiatives and programming across the University’s campus.
