Decolonizing Bodies in Public Health is a course offered on UC Berkeley's campus which is facilitated by me and my colleague. This course aims to help students understand how the histories of colonial activity have impacted the infrastructure of formerly colonized communities (both positively and negatively), how cultural legacies of colonialism live on today, both in the world of health and otherwise, and how colonial discourse and overtones have made their way into public health work and academia by critically examining public health texts and lectures from this lens.

SHOCKS is a non-profit organization aimed at providing AEDs (automatic external defibrillators) to schools in California. Even though 15,000 children will die each year due to sudden cardiac arrest, California law does not require that these life saving devices be made available in schools. Our goal is to raise awareness and raise money to cover California with AEDs by 2030.
Every week, this committee plans a fundraiser to hold on the UC Berkeley campus to raise money towards a charity or an organization. Each time money is raised, a different organization is chosen and all proceeds are donated to that organization. Being able to directly see where the money is going and how it is making an impact is the reason I devote my time to being a member of this particular AMSA committee.
