SculptorJasmine Bradbury Jul 2015 - PresentI am a British female sculptor and artist based in Norfolk. My sculptures explore and question the unconscious mind and how life’s experiences which we all internalise are personally expressed. I see my sculptures as a form of language which present interpretations and responses to dealing with the internal mind. I often use the human form or natural objects which I abstract and sculpt in clay or plaster and then cast in a variety of materials - lead, bronze, aluminium, resin, plaster and jesmonite. More recently, I have begun to explore stone carving as an expression of my work. My sculptures give a literal explanation of capturing how an emotion might be felt in a moment and often contradicts an object’s properties - life or a person might not be as it seems. I have been researching the work of Carl Jung and his theory of collective consciousness, which has inspired me to create a series of sculptures which focus on his theory of ‘Shadow Self’. The exploration of accepting all parts of the self, the light and the dark. “The meeting with oneself is, at first, the meeting with one's own shadow.” Since graduating with a first-class honours in Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts in 2015, I have worked in bronze casting foundries in London, Norfolk, and Suffolk. Over the last 10 years I have acquired the skills to fabricate sculpture in metals, resins and plaster and more recently stone carving. For the last 3 years I have been running my own mould making and casting business. As well as producing my own sculptures, I work day-to-day with established sculptors, enabling them to cast and finish final works. I have built an expansive network of artists that, in turn, help me to pursue and build on my own sculptural practice.
