The statistic above is an example of their correlation. I grew up watching my father navigate real estate after a “contractor” stole my grandmother’s money and failed to do any of the renovations to save her aging home. While statistics and situations like these can be disheartening, I’ve always been motived by injustice and empowered by activism.I have aligned and connected with organizations in the community like NAACP and The Directors Council to help identify racial gaps in Iowa including real estate. I also sit on boards like the city of Des Moines Housing & Appeals Board, the city of Des Moines Practice & Policy Review Board to bring representation and voice of marginalized communities to the decision-making table. While fighting for equity across professions, I founded my home building business. I use my business to meet the needs of people from all walks of life, but also to be a physical manifestation of the importance of equity.
