Working closely with authors, typesetters/ copy- editors as well as printers and our marketing team to deliver the academic and practitioner books, both print and digital, to tight deadlines and high standards. Creating cover designs using InDesign, ensuring these match with printer specifications. Creating new templates when needed, to specifications from the editors, including for size, editorial requests (such as additional series information) for both IET books and SciTech books. Using InDesign to load ICML and produce the practitioner books, fixing layout issues and amending the document to the house style. In this role I have had experience with using different typesetters and helped introduce and assimilate a new typesetter to the IET house style for production, while also liasing with our authors to ensure a smooth transition and maintain the high specifications for books that customers have come to expect. Overseeing and project managing the books as they undergo several proofing stages, before final checks and final (final!) checks at the print stage ensuring the book is meeting deadlines (problem-solving, assisting authors and typesetters when it is not). I update the internal spreadsheets using excel for editors to keep track of progress, and prepare reports on the progress of each book. I prepare the files necessary for the printer, the digital files including XML files as well as the archiving files for both internal and external use, using many different systems and processes to ensure all are delivered on time and updated as necessary.Checking when reprints are needed and organsing this, checking tenders from printers, organising delivery with printers and the warehouse, updating spreadsheets as well as generating the purchase orders, invoices and commercial invoices.
