Under the division of Student Affairs, Student Dens were created with the intention to engage, onboard, and provide continuous support and mentorship for the incoming first-time first-year students. In staying true to our mission and vision, students receive the resources and tools they need to reach their personal, academic, and career goals. The Dens will serve as a hub for a cohort of students who will be supported by a Den Guide and a Den Assistant.UC Merced Student Dens provide opportunities for UC Merced undergraduate students to develop friendships with fellow students, engage the resources of a world-class research university, and connect to the vibrant community of students, faculty, and staff at the heart of the UC Merced experience.Den Assistants will support the Den Guide in the implementation of virtual programming, support, and• Promote Community: Build the relationships that are core to the UC Merced experiencementoring of students, and referrals to resources and programs that enhance the development of students• Lifelong Learning: Encourage intellectual curiosity and inquiryand set them up for a successful transition from High School to their UC Merced experience.• Support: Learn and access the campus resources available to all Bobcats The following encompasses the role and responsibilities of the Den Assistant:• Connections: Create spaces for social interaction, engagement, accountability, and leadership• Serve in a peer mentor capacity for students assigned to the den to empower and support by coaching

UC Merced Residence Education is charged with providing a comfortable, convenient, and engaging residential experience for students living on-campus. Under the supervision of a Residence Life Coordinator (RLCs), the Resident Assistant (RA) supports this mission by facilitating various aspects of student life in the residence communities. The RA plays an important leadership role in developing inclusive and interactive communities through activity implementation; serving as a mentor, role model, counselor, and referral agent; establishing and enforcing behavioral standards; facilitating communication; and participating in an on-call duty rotation for emergency response. 1. Strive to create safe and inclusive learning communities that practice the UC Merced “Principles of Community” and enhances students’ University experience.2. Coordinate ongoing formal and informal activities to help residents connect with others within the housing and across campus. Coordinate interactive meals with residents. 3. Promote resident involvement in programs offered by other campus organizations.4. Create opportunities for students to provide feedback and evaluation of our programs and services.
