Founder And Creative Director
CurrentAs the Founder and Creative Director of Jasmine Linington Art & Design, I lead an innovative studio based in Edinburgh, specialising in the use of seaweed and other natural materials for textile art and design. My practice is deeply inspired by the coastal landscapes of Scotland, where I hand-harvest various species of seaweed to create unique, sustainable, and captivating pieces.I have developed a range of processes to incorporate seaweed into textiles, utilising it for natural dyes, sequins, and beads. My work with SeaCell fibre, a combination of seaweed and eucalyptus cellulose, results in luxurious, eco-friendly fabrics enhanced with hand and digital embroidery techniques. My studio's output is divided between bespoke textile artworks and more accessible products, such as seaweed-pressed art and jewellery. Each piece reflects my commitment to sustainability and the beauty of natural materials.I continuously explore new applications for seaweed in the context of interior design and fashion. This includes developing kelp-based wall art and accessories that showcase the material's versatility and aesthetic potential. My work embodies the principles of slow design and sustainability. By sourcing seaweed responsibly and employing thoughtful, low-impact methods, I aim to create pieces that are not only beautiful and timeless but also mindful of the environment. My work has been featured in various exhibitions and I have collaborated with other artists and sustainable design advocates to push the boundaries of seaweed-based textiles.
