SCHEMCON stands for Students' Chemical Engineering Congress. It is an annual event organized by the students' chapter of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers. A Students' CHEMCON (SCHEMCON) acts as a source of encouragement and self-confidence for young minds, which are considered as the most fertile ground for generation of original and creative ideas. The first ever Students' CHEMCON was organised during 7 to 9 December 2005 at IIT Guwahati jointly by the Student Chapters at IIT Guwahati and Assam Engg College, both newly formed. The response received from the students of chemical engineering in general to participate in this programme had been phenomenal. SCHEMCON'12 is the eighth edition of this mega-event. The 8th Annual Session of the Students’ Chemical Engineering Congress (SCHEMCON 2012) was organized by the IIChE Students’ Chapter at Department of Chemical Engineering, BITS Pilani – Pilani Campus and Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) Pilani Regional Centre during September 21-22, 2012 with the theme "Energy Efficient Technologies for Green Environment." Total student delegates participation in SCHEMCON 2012 was 400. Besides that there were accompanying faculty members from various institutes, the IIChE Council members, the keynote speakers and the session chairs/judges. The event was a major success with coverage in leading newspapers and electronic media.
