Florida Blue Key is the oldest and most prestigious leadership honorary in the State of Florida. Founded in 1923, Florida Blue Key's 7000 distinguished alumni and 10 alumni chapters are committed to leadership and public service to the University of Florida and the Sunshine State. Florida Blue Key has organized the annual University of Florida Homecoming festivities including Gator Growl, the largest student-run pep rally in the world, for over 95 years. In addition to numerous other events, each fall, Florida Blue Key hosts its annual Speech & Debate Tournament on-campus for exceptional high school students.

In my junior year of high school, I worked with a nonprofit organization called The Borgen Project, advocating for international poverty reduction legislation. With guidance from my supervisor, I set a meeting with the Regional Director of the Tampa office for Senator Marco Rubio. Three years later, I would set another meeting with him - an interview to interview within the office. With a flash of recognition, we got straight to talking and found an incredible culture of hard work and accountability within the office. I fielded calls from constituents, organizing their claims against the federal government and helping assign specialized caseworkers to constituents. I traveled across the state with the Regional Director (occasionally accompanied by Senator Rubio himself), meeting with different grassroots and lobbying groups, as well as put on and participate in special ceremonies, from war veteran commemorations to interviewing applicants for West Point. I have never gotten closer immersion to government bureaucracy than with this internship. I met so many different kinds of people and really got a glimpse into my reason for going into politics. Fighting for real, tangible solutions that can positively impact thousands of people is an incredible feeling.

Since I was initiated into Delta Chi , I have served on the executive board in various roles as I grew personally and professionally. It started off as an opportunity to make friends, given that few people from my high school came to the University of Florida. As I found my place in organizations around campus, Delta Chi became a second home to me.As alumni secretary, I expanded the semester newsletter we sent to our alumni base. In addition, we increased edition circulation to once a month. Moreover, I planned, hosted, and executed an annual parents weekend.Following this position, the president encouraged me to run for treasurer, as the budget was currently operating at a deficit. With the president's help, we worked together to streamline and rework the budget, as well as ran a fundraising campaign that raised $17,000 to help cover chapter expenses.With that, I ran uncontested for president of the chapter. This is where I developed my communication skills, as I oversaw a 60-member chapter and an 11-member executive board. I understood that while I had been elected to the chapter to keep climbing upward, I could not let myself get stuck on one path or solution.By the end of my term as president, our national headquarters honored us with six different awards for for our incredible improvement. We were recognized for instituting a brand new study program, improving our chapter GPA to become one of the highest at the University. We were recognized for our philanthropic efforts, raising about $800 during my term as president. Two of my officers were recognized for going above and beyond the call of duty. We were recognized for our exponential recruitment, having doubled it twice during my time on the executive board. Lastly, we won the most improved chapter award for the country.I sought out to see the best come out of my fraternity experience. We took it so far beyond that. The officers I worked with I hope to see at my wedding someday.

Under the chair of the political science department at UF, Dr. Daniel Smith directed me to apply to Statecraft for a data immersion experience unlike no other when it comes to analyzing political races around the country. He did not disappoint.At Statecraft Digital, I received the opportunity to categorize, cleanse, and revolutionize thousands of congressional race social media analytics. I became familiar with many different types of software used to track campaign data, website traffic, and more. Specifically, I became proficient in using Van, Slack, Canva, BannerSnack, WPEngine. I designed website pages, constructed detailed summaries of statutes passed by congressional leaders, and created social media graphics for Statecraft's own website.Overall, despite the internship being offered remotely, I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be trained in different web functions as well as strengthen my knowledge of the digital side of politics.

Going into this experience, I was not sure what to make of it. I knew that my heart was in government, so I figured that learning the ropes of orientation would help me better understand the university and its culture of preparing the next generation of professional leaders. I could not have predicted how being a Preview Staffer would change my life.Firstly, the training to become a Preview Staffer was rigorous. After we were selected from a 3-round interview process with over 600 applicants, we had to complete a leadership course and pass the exam portion on learning how to teach students regardless of major how to pick their courses. Then came the summer.In working full-time for the majority of the summer, I came to understand grueling work. The constant set up and tear down of focus groups, career fairs, walking tours, and more was difficult. What was more uncanny, was the sheer number of students I would meet and host group discussions as well as advise them on what classes to choose.By the end of the summer, our supervisors informed us that we had hosted over 11,000 students. 11,000 students with vastly different life experiences and cultural backgrounds. I learned to become more sensitive to when people are holding back regarding touchy subjects. I understood a better grasp of empathy as I became more successful throughout the summer at getting students to open up to me about their fears and concerns. In turn, I became more in touch with my own emotions too.All together, I am so thankful I chose this as one of my many leadership experiences for the University of Florida. It taught me about building meaningful relationships with everyone you meet, whether that is in the workplace or in a social environment.

I worked as a campaign intern for Commissioner Gigi Simmons in the Gainesville City Commission. I started off canvassing and phone banking, but would go on to direct and manage the commissioner's policy priorities, conducting in-depth analysis on local issues, formulating her platform, and writing op-eds to explain the commissioner's stances on the issues. I also helped prepare the commissioner for debates to obtain endorsements, simultaneously applying for and writing to individual organizations that make up voting blocks in the commissioner's race.
