Primary project involved design, development and supply of a new scanning probe for a major machine tool OEM. The probe uses optical scale and read head technology, providing digital quadrature outputs. This enables thousands of contact points to be taken, instead of a single point, providing greater accuracy when measuring complex parts, such as gear splines or rotors. The measurements are repeatable to within 1 micron. The product is used in a harsh environment and is sealed against any ingress of solids and liquids to IP68.Other design activities involved providing customers with solutions using motorised arms, laser and contact tool setters.
