As a litigator for Wolf Greenfield, I help come up with a winning litigation strategy and translate that to the courtroom. I’ve defended Sony as respondent at the ITC against a competitor in the magnetic tape industry that resulted in a licensing deal favorable to Sony. I’ve helped a small Boston-based electro-hydraulic actuator company protect its IP rights in district court against a competitor. I’ve defended Canadian military helmet manufacturer Galvion in district court patent litigation. I’ve represented Precision BioSciences before the PTAB in an interference proceeding—and secured a win against a competitor, finding that Precision BioSciences was the first to invent a certain CAR-T cell technology. I’ve defended Canadian telematics company Geotab against patent trolls’ frivolous allegations of patent infringement.I also represent patent owners before the PTAB in inter partes reviews (IPRs) in technologies such as anti-viral nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors for the treatment of HIV on behalf of the University of Minnesota, anti-cancer CAR-T cell therapy on behalf of the University of Maryland, multi-mode personal computers on behalf of Boston-based Litl, and botulinum toxin treatment for Medytox. Each of those IPR petitions were denied institution by the Patent Office’s PTAB. I have experience working in U.S. district courts in the Districts of Delaware, New Jersey, the Northern District of Illinois. I recently argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. And I represent clients before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the U.S. Patent Trial Appeals Board (PTAB).

Aubergine Group is the real estate business that I founded and owned. I started it in 2007—right at the beginning of the financial meltdown and had to pivot from condo conversions to residential rental real estate to meet the new market realities. I directed all marketing, finance, and business development activities. I drafted and review all leases, contracts, and filed tax returns. And I managed conversions of multi-family buildings into condominiums.

As a litigator for Axinn, I performed case management and assisted in litigation strategy for generic pharmaceutical companies as defendants in Hatch-Waxman litigation, a branded pharmaceutical company as a plaintiff in patent litigation, and a Massachusetts-based medical device company as defendant in patent litigation.I put my creative skills to use in producing a technology tutorial video on polymorphs as part of a Markman hearing in the District of Delaware. I worked with experts in the fields of crystallography, biomechanical engineering, pharmaceutical formulations, and medical doctors on expert reports and prepared for depositions. I drafted notice letters for P-IV certifications in abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) in connection with Hatch-Waxman litigation in Districts of Delaware, Eastern District of Virginia and New Jersey. I helped a pharmaceutical company address an FDA deficiency regarding an ANDA for a generic transdermal patch by coordinating magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing. And I evaluated whether drugs undergoing clinical trial would qualify for “new chemical entity” (NCE) exclusivity upon approval by FDA.

I was an intern at GE’s Global Patent Operation for a year while I was in law school and in that year assisted in drafting U.S. patent applications and conducted an inventor interview. I drafted responses to U.S. and foreign office actions. I conducted an interview with a USPTO examiner to discuss rejections. And I assisted in drafting an appeal brief to Board of Appeals and Patent Inferences.

After getting my MBA I switched roles at 3M from developing optical films to marketing them. I co-led team to develop competitive intelligence tracking software. And I managed internet marketing campaigns for 3M’s Display Enhancement Films. Google even sent me a lava lamp once as a token thank you for the AdWords spend—thanks Google.

As a product development engineer for 3M I led a new technology introduction team, creating a scratch-proof film that Dell used for its laptop computers. I also was the co-inventor of four U.S. patents: 6,814,899; 6,949,297; 7,378,136; and 7,820,236. Two related to the scratch-proof film project. One was a super adhesive that applied like tape (a pressure sensitive adhesive) but then could be UV cured for a super-hard bond. The last invention related to an improved poly-vinylene / polyvinyl alcohol co-polymer polarizer—a polarizer that would never fade.
