Chism Automation is a leading systems integrator and custom machine builder in the central Kentucky area. With a specialty in robotic work cells, we provide equipment for multiple Tier 1 suppliers in the automotive industry and other various manufacturers. My responsibilities include managing a team of controls engineers through the design, build, commissioning, and installation phases of multiple projects simultaneously. I manage to keep my skills up to date by actively participating in the engineering processes as needed and conducting training for our staff on various skills. I also perform internal design reviews before releasing the projects to the shop, and internal commissioning of the equipment before the customer arrives for acceptance testing.

Schneider Electric Lexington is a leading manufacturer of commercial and residential loadcenters and safety switches. As a lighthouse facility within their organization, the Lexington plant embraced automation and filled the 500,000 square foot facility with as much as possible. My responsibilities while at Schneider Electric included productivity improvement and downtime reduction of multiple areas of the production floor, working with maintenance personnel to resolve and eliminate production barriers, design and build new automation equipment, and manage projects handled by outside contractors. Examples of the equipment I was responsible for include semi-automated assembly lines, screwdriving stations, vision systems, packaging equipment, material handling and palletizing robots. Collaboration with production, safety, quality, maintenance, product engineering, and management was necessary to successfully implement projects, both small and large, with minimal to no disruption to our customers. During my tenure at Schneider Electric, I self-taught in the implementation and programming of Yaskawa Motoman robots. I was responsible for the implementation of at least 14 robot cells and helped maintain and improve an additional 14.

Control Solutions Inc. was a controls engineering company specializing in systems integration and conveyor systems design. They were purchased by Interlake Material Handling to support their conveyor division and other intra-company projects. My responsibilities included the design, programming, and installation of various control systems with an emphasis on conveyor systems for warehouse distribution projects. This opportunity allowed me to learn how to control high-speed shoe sorters, barcode data acquisition, data tracking, and warehouse management systems.

This did not align with my career goals and skills at the time. My responsibilities included contracting with various skilled trades to install equipment for international companies, establishing a remote office on the jobsite, and negotiating with local unions.
