Over a span of twenty years, I have developed skills and experience navigating government bureaucracy and procedures at the state and local levels, and have had regular interaction with federal partners. I have experience in budget development and management, both within a state agency and at the local level. Throughout my working life, I have developed experience drafting and interpreting legislation, and have acquired an understanding of government relations, strategy and outreach. I have experience writing persuasively, and have negotiated contacts for service and employee compensation (from the management side). I am also proficient in both campaign management and organization.I have served in local elected office for sixteen years. I served for six years on the Board of Finance in East Windsor after being elected at 25 years old, and was elected chairman at 29 years old. I have served six years on the Board of Selectmen, and four more years as First Selectman. During those years, I have helped craft government budgets in excess of $44 million annually, authored many local ordinances, and developed coalition building skills.I have developed skill sets in economic development innovation and strategies, community engagement, municipal finance, grant writing and administration, policy development and interdepartmental municipal service integration.
