Screen and enroll burn patients during 12 hour on call shifts into the lab's Coagulopathy study and process their blood throughout their participation in the study. Make patient visits with nurses to evaluate healing of burn wounds. Shadowing in the trauma bay during night shifts and assist doctors/medical students with processing trauma patients. Perform patient evaluations and tertiaries while exploring the patient doctor interaction in a diverse hospital setting.

Research with Dr. Gerardo VastaConduct experiments concerning the role of lectins and galectins with respect to the immune response in the host. Pneumococcal diseases such as Influenza and Pneumonia are studied. Despite having an innate immune role and for being essential for development through signal transduction pathways, galectins have also been observed to facilitate pathogen entry into host epithelial cells by binding to carbohydrates on the coats of said pathogens. The mechanism by which this proceeds by is looked in to and how to determine which galectins have more of a pathogenic effect rather than an immune one is analyzed

Assist the Professor and Graduate Teaching Assistant in directing the laboratory portion of the course for 2 hours, twice a week. Responsibilities include weekly meetings to discuss upcoming labs, facilitating laboratory work, conducting demonstrations of bacterial analysis techniques and grading student work.

Research with Dr. Irving RetiConducted a research investigation involving the role of Neuronal Activity Regulated Pentraxin (Narp) in the hippocampus area of the brain and its effects on enhancing Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for depression. The best type of ECT to administer was then determined for an optimal anti-depressant effect. Took part in weekly laboratory meetings and weekly journal club meets designed to complement the knowledge applied in the laboratory setting.
