About Jason Eckstein
I am a software engineer, and retired Military Intelligence officer with 20 years served in the U.S. Army. I enlisted as a Persian-Farsi linguist in 2003 with no college education and a six-month old son. In the last 20 years I have obtained an Associate of Arts in Foreign Language, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and finally a Master of Science in Computer Science and Systems; and my wife and I had seven more children, for a total of eight.Since I commissioned as an officer in 2009, I have learned a great deal about leadership--as an Army leader, father and husband. However, sometime during the past 13 years I realized my real passion in life is software development. Once I realized this, and started getting closer to retirement, I knew I had to prepare. I made a calculated risk to take as many jobs developing software as I could find--which is not as many as you'd think in the Army. If my kids learn anything from me, I hope it's to follow their dreams and do what makes them happy.
