I am an award-winning Lincoln scholar and general historian, with eight books and nearly fifty articles published. I have appeared as a historical expert on multiple television and radio shows and podcasts, and have lectured around the country from the Library of Congress to the Florida State Book Fair to the Lincoln Shrine in Redlands, California, and everywhere in between. My books "The Madness of Mary Lincoln" and "Giant in the Shadows: The Life of Robert T. Lincoln" were both named Book of the Year by the Illinois State Historical Society. I am typically known as the scholar who found Mary Lincoln's “lost insanity letters,” which historians had been seeking for 80 years (and which were the basis for my first book), and the only scholar in the entire Lincoln field to have studied and written about Robert T. Lincoln, Abraham and Mary's oldest son.

I am currently a contract book copyeditor for a British publisher, and have done substantive editing for other other authors' articles, books, and book proposals. I also have years of professional experience in content marketing and social media marketing.

As editorial director of Bentley-Hall, Inc., marketing agency, I was responsible for all editorial content in our various projects. This included writing and editing magazines, newsletters, books, website content, social media posts, marketing materials, project proposals, and more. My primary job was as managing editor of International Musician magazine, the official publication of the American Federation of Musicians with approximately 80,000 circulation. I did mulitple jobs in order to get the magazine designed, written, and published each month, but the best part was getting to interview and write feature articles about internationally renowned musicians. I'm proud to say the magazine won seven awards in the 2020 International Labor Communications Association Labor Media Awards, including three for writing that I won personally (two firsts and an honorable mention), as well as third place for best overall national labor magazine.My second main responsibility was as managing editor for our own digital magazine, Making Music (www.makingmusicmag.com). This international publication offered interviews, news, tips, resources, and general information for musicians of any level and any genre.

As editor of the Eagle Bulletin, a 7,500 circulation weekly publication, I brought news to multiple Central New York communities through my reporting, writing, copyediting, photography, editing and layout, and management of the paper's website and social media channels. I managed reporters, freelance writers, and interns, and generally did the myriad of jobs and responsibilites all community newspaper editors are required to do.

As editor of the Cazenovia Republican, a 4,500 circulation weekly publication, I brought news to my local community through my reporting, editorializing, writing, copyediting, photography, editing and layout, and management of the paper's website and social media channels. I managed reporters, freelance writers, and interns, and generally did the myriad of jobs and responsibilites all community newspaper editors are required to do.

Editor of the Skaneateles Press, a 5,000 circulation weekly publication. Job duties include reporting, writing, copyediting, photography, editing and layout using Photoshop and Adobe InDesign; management of social media using Facebook and Twitter; posting online using WordPress; management of reporters and freelance writers; weekly copyediting of other Eagle editors’ newspapers.

I reported on human resource issues affecting federal government employees, covering six main areas: employee relations, labor relations, equal employment opportunity, pay and benefits, classification and taffing, and workers’ compensation. I wrote for a daily web site, and weekly and monthly newsletters, and had weekly copyediting duties. My work consisted of constantly reviewing federal agency, nonprofit organization, and think tank websites; attending congressional committee hearings, press conferences, and U.S. Supreme Court oral arguments; interviewing contacts within federal agencies, Congress, the White House, nonprofit organizations, and political think tanks.

I reported for a daily newspaper covering the police beat, fire & rescue, four local towns, one school district, the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation, and any other editor assignments. I also assisted with photography and photographic development, as well as newspaper layout using Quark.
