After I sold the majority of my business to private equity, I stayed on and ran it as the CEO for a while. After selling it a second time, I bought some complementary businesses and eventually retired for a few weeks. But staying idle didn't sit well with me. So, I started (another) business — Hendren Business Advisors, where I help other business owners grow and exit their businesses.In my 20+ years of first-hand experience, I painfully scraped my way through getting a business off the ground to scaling and selling. I learned the art of knowing which businesses are worth buying and how sophisticated investors evaluate acquisition targets. Now, I'm collecting all my insights and sharing them in my upcoming book, "Things I Wish I Knew Before I Sold to Private Equity," because I don't want other entrepreneurs to struggle with the same questions I had. This is the book I desperately wish was available before I ventured into my first sale so I could have known how business owners can realistically grow their enterprise value and successfully exit from their businesses.I earned a BSIE and MBA from the University of Central Florida, where I'm now able to support first-generation scholarships, entrepreneurship programs, and the Football Shareholders Society. I started my career as an Industrial Engineer working in manufacturing. Shortly after obtaining my MBA, I became the operating partner of a startup business that I eventually acquired and grew into a nationally recognized manufacturer of energy-efficient lighting. In my spare time, I am a volunteer football coach at Sanford Seminole High School, where our team won the 2020 8A state championship. I live in downtown Orlando, Florida, with my amazing wife, Carol, and our dogs, Pfingsten and Ravenclaw.
