Research Assistant IiVanderbilt University Medical Center Jun 2022 - PresentNashville, Tennessee, United StatesIn my current position, I am the senior research assistant in the Ware/Bastarache/Shaver Lab. Our research group focuses on several aspects of acute lung injury including sepsis, ARDS, delirium, multiorgan failure, sex differences in critical illness, and lung transplantation with active research projects using ex vivo human lung perfusion, and physiologic models of sepsis in mice.In my role, I provide strategic and technical direction for our postdoc, MD, Ph.D., and Ph.D. candidates. I am the sole manager of our mouse colony includes breeding, treating, and genotyping mice. In addition, I assist with large mouse harvest and perform intracardiac punctures, intratracheal installation, lung lavages, and more. Furthermore, I have experience investigating how activation of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R), through a mainstay diabetes medication (Liraglutide), shows a protective effect against sepsis and hyperoxia-induced acute lung injury. Along with experience performing multiday ex vivo lung perfusion projects investigating epithelial barrier dysfunction. -
