Pensions Technical Specialist

Originally taken on as a telephone financial adviser I graduated to the Technical Services Department in September 1998. The role involves giving technical support to all sales channels of Friends Provident, from IFA to the direct sales force. The technical environment is one of tax and legislation and includes a financial planning service designed to offer alternative solutions to pension problems. I also get involved in reading and interpreting new legislation and issuing bulletins internally to explain any changes. I produce technical Tips designed to give out information on technical aspects of pensions and sales opportunities to our sales forces. I get involved in marketing projects and have input into many of their sales aids and brochures. I am also Project Manager for a computer based pensions calculator; this involves developing the applications and running a team to ensure that the system is delivered accurately and on schedule. I also do occasional training sessions for internal staff. I have also studied and passed G60 AFPC.

Territory Sales Manager

Beer Seller

Territory Sales Manager covering a variety of areas before being transferred to another depot with a fixed area. I was responsible for maintaining and developing an existing area in the free trade sector and expanding our soft drinks acquisition into fully fledged beer trade accounts. I was able to negotiate prices and installations to acquire new business to a level before having to consult my superiors. I had to organise to a high standard my paperwork and my own personal business schedule. I was also responsible for the financial viability of my customers and ensure the bills were paid. Made redundant June 1995.

Jun 1994 - Jun 1995

Territory Sales Manger

Gibbs Mew Brewery

I was responsible for the development of the sales of Gibbs Mew products and other factored lines into existing customers and for developing new free trade business. I was able to negotiate terms to agreed levels and to agree promotional activity. I recommended to management terms, which were beyond my authority, in order to secure volume trade. The territory that I took over was running considerably down on the previous years’ sales and my first priority was to stabilise the position and then grow the business, both with existing customers and new business. At the time of my departure the territory’s cumulative deficit was considerably reduced and current trade was 10.5% up. For most of my employment I was also required to spend at least 2 days a week on a second territory to cover for long term illness. I also maintained and grew business in this area. Gibbs closed its free trade operation and I was made redundant in January 1994.
