Building world class software development teams and processes

Fisdap has joined with Ascend Learning, and I have moved into a Software Architect role. I will be working with the development team to spearhead a new architecture for Fisdap to support the growing needs of Fisdap and Ascend. We are currently utilizing technologies such as Go, PHP, Couchbase, Docker, and Microservices.

At FISDAP I have implemented technologies and bestpractices to help a team of developers become more efficient and practice better software architecture to help scale the applications geared towards EMS education. I have spearheaded the movement to technologies such as Docker & Microservices. As a developer I have also been mentoring other developers on software design and software architectural patterns.I have been working with a small team of developers on building a solution that will be used to help validate and deploy test questions to learning management systems. This solution is being build using Microservices that are utilizing technologies such as Docker, as well as technologies such as PHP, Laravel, Java, Go, & Node.js.

As a Team Lead Developer with The Nerdery I was charged with managing the projects and productivity of 10 software engineers. 20% of my time would be working with fellow engineers to make sure they had enough project work to keep them utilized and engaged throughout the week. 80% of my week was working as a Lead Software Engineer on development projects. Each week I would meet with management and other departments to help find interesting projects for my team to work on, while still hitting necessary utilization benchmarks.Before I was a Team Lead, I was a Software Engineer 3/Lead Developer specializing in PHP and iOS. Most of my time is spending creating applications for clients in PHP, Zend Framework, Javascript, and HTML. As a Lead Developer I also an tasked with the technical leading of projects from estimating, scoping work, assigning work to other developers, managing developer tasks, technical code reviews, and making sure client receives the best project on time. I also am very proficient in using web services such as PayPal, Facebook, and Twitter. I am also knowledgeable in Python, Ruby, Java, C#, and Objective-C.

As a software engineer in Integrations, I assisted large merchants through the entire software development life cycle of adding PayPal to their website and desktop and mobile applications. I assisted through the entire process starting with idea generation, architecture, code creation, all the way until the merchant is live with PayPal. Along with assisting merchants I also spend much of my time building internal PayPal business tools to help with streamlining internal processes. I constantly work with management and stake holders to create a plan on how software can improve their business decisions. I then will code solutions, debug, and support once it is live.

My day to day activities included being in charge of, building and maintaing features, in PHP, for 4 of 7 websites the company runs that receive thousands of visitors each day. The MSR Group is a marketing research firm that has 7 large banks as clients. Each day the company gives phone call surveys to the banks customers. Each client has their own customized website where every bank manager checks in each day to receive their statistics. I used PHP, jQuery, and SQL on a daily basis and maintained tens of thousands of lines of code for my 4 sites.

As an Merchant Technical Services agent I was the front lines for troubleshooting issues with the PayPal API. I would also answer phone calls and emails from customers having problems with implementing PayPal into their website. I also worked on building internal projects using PHP and MySQL. During this time I also became a PayPal Certified Developer.

- As a Merchant Solutions agent I provided exceptional customer service to PayPal merchants.- I provided information to PayPal and eBay merchants as well as questions regarding PayPal transactions, disputes, and how to use eBay and PayPal.- In Merchant Solutions I answered a high volume of calls and emails while keeping within the pre-determined goals.

- My main project involved the design, development, & administration of a detailed casualty claims management program using Microsoft Access 2007.- For the 2.5 years I had been managing the creation and usage of an online catastrophe claims management system from idea through current usage and sale of Easierclaims.com as a service. I am in charge of idea generation and project documentation.- I began with Mid-America as a customer service agent handling a large quantity of inbound and outbound catastrophe related calls during Hurricane Katrina. Quickly moved to insurance adjuster position and inspected damaged homes. I was also licensed in Texas and Florida as insurance adjuster.- Spearheaded movement of company from paper based to paperless. Initiated move to Quickbooks, VOIP phone system, Google Apps, and all paper is now scanned when it is received.

- Learned and practiced the belief that the customer should leave the store with a high quality experience and with all the technology they need to make their product achieve the fullest potential.- I would help coordinate store efforts for “Black Friday” the largest sales day of the year..- While at Best Buy I sold large ticket items such as plasma televisions.
