Staff ScientistSabic Americas Sep 2014 - Apr 2016Riyadh, SaAs a Project Leader, I directly supervised two Ph.D. scientists and three chemists in a team focused on developing a new reaction as part of our Corporate Research Future Feedstocks department. I had primary responsibility for developing and defending the project's technical strategy, resource needs, and milestones. I authored three internal technical reports regarding experimental findings, wrote monthly progress updates, and gave quarterly reviews to management. -
Lead ScientistSabic Americas Jan 2012 - Sep 2014Riyadh, SaBeing part of the initial Homogeneous Catalysis group at SABIC's Corporate Research and Development center at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, I helped outfit labs “from the ground up." I furthermore synthesized air- and moisture-sensitive homogeneous main group metal catalysts and their ligands for polymer synthesis. I analyzed the thermodynamics, outlined the chemical strategy, and built a business case for this project. Within scope of the platform, I also proposed additional projects and their business cases. -
Postdoctoral FellowUniversity Of Toronto Jan 2009 - Dec 2012Toronto, Ontario, CaWorking in the labs of Prof. Douglas W. Stephan, I was sponsored by Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) to conceive and develop new organic ligand frameworks for metallocene catalysts, with intellectual property concerns a priority. I synthesized these ligands and complexed them onto early transition metals, characterizing the resultant compounds using NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and X-ray crystallography. Finally, I tested and quantified their catalytic activity for olefin polymerization and copolymerization in Schlenk-line and Parr reactor trials. This work resulted in the granting of US Patent 9156929: “Olefin-Bridged bis(2-Indenyl) Metallocene Catalysts for Copolymerizing of Ethylene with alpha-Olefins” (Oct 13, 2015). -
Graduate StudentCornell University Aug 2003 - Dec 2009Graduate school was where I gained a broad knowledge of current reaction methodology and the ability to plan multistep synthetic sequences. Working in the labs of Assistant Prof. Jón T. Njarðarson, during this time I developed a route towards the natural product vinigrol involving a consecutive oxidative dearomatization and intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloaddition pathway. I directed two undergraduate research assistants: John D. Freeman (2005 – 2007) and Laura D. Kwon (2007 – 2008), who were invaluable for their assistance in moving starting material forward.

Undergraduate Research AssistantUniversity Of South Carolina 2000 - 2003Columbia, Sc, UsMy experience in chemistry began in the research group of Prof. Uwe H. F. Bunz, where I worked with a talented graduate student, Matthew Laskoski. There I learned to ynthesized organometallic dehydroannulenes based on ferrocene and cobalt cyclopentadiene-cyclobutadiene scaffolds, becoming trained in standard laboratory techniques and safety.
