Jason Rouse manages the Mass Spectrometry and Biophysical Characterization (MSBC) laboratory at Pfizer, Inc., which is a branch of the Analytical Research and Development (ARD) group in the greater BioTherapeutics Pharmaceutical Sciences (BioTx PS) organization. MSBC is situated in two locations – Andover, MA (the former site of Wyeth BioPharma and Genetics Institute) and Chesterfield (St. Louis), MO (a former site of Pharmacia). In this arrangement, dedicated core mass spectrometry and biophysical laboratories reside at both sites. MSBC works collaboratively with various ARD and BioTx PS groups at each site, as well as with research and manufacturing groups across Pfizer, to carry out preclinical, clinical and commercial product characterization studies, method development and optimization exercises, clinical and commercial product comparability assessments, and time-sensitive developmental and commercial manufacturing investigations. Jason received his Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry from Michigan State University in 1993 and joined Genetics Institute as a post-doctoral research fellow. Jason was promoted into positions of greater responsibility over the years and currently he is the director of MSBC in ARD. Jason’s scientific interests include the elucidation and analysis of released N- and O-glycans and polysaccharides by on-line and off-line MS techniques, as well as the top-down characterization of intact glycoproteins by ultrahigh-resolution MS approaches.Specialties: Protein mass spectrometry using ultrahigh-resolution techniques, characterization of N- and O-glycans and polysaccharides by on-line MS methods, and solving commercial manufacturing investigations with MS.
