The Scottish Men's Sheds Association (SMSA) was founded due to the growing need and requests on me as the full time Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action Men's Shed Development Officer, trustee of Westhill Men's Shed and co founder of the U.K. Men's Shed Association. I also co founded the first Men's Shed in Scotland based on the Australian model of a workshop, social area and storage area. I have been involved in the creation of and 'spreading the shed' movement in the U.K. since 2009. The Westhill Men's Shed opened in Feb 2013 and has been very successful with over 5000 visits in its first eighteen month period and is now moving into a fund generating social enterprise. It has become the flag ship in Scotland for the Men's Sheds Movement. Due to the grass roots interest and demands upon the men and me I decided a national body which could support the national interest was required. This follows in the footsteps of the Australian and Irish Men's Sheds Movement. The SMSA trustees, are involved in setting up their own sheds, have been sort from around Scotland and form the Scottish Men's Sheds Association charity which became a Scottish Charity in Sep 2014. We launched the association at the iconic Lighthouse in Glasgow in November 2015 which was a complete success. We then did our first Roadshow to Govan, Glasgow, Oban, Inverness and Fife in December. In September 2016 we received our first support funding from the Scottish Government who have recognised the work we do in creating and supporting a preventative model for healthy people and connected communities primarily to a marginalised and hard to reach sector of the Scottish population. In 2021 the SMSA charity has over 2500 individual members, supports over 180 Shed groups across Scotland which attract over 10 000 men into the grass roots movement.

PTSD Healing is a healing support initiative for war veterans suffering from what the mainstream call Post Traumatic Stress Disorder but from a Souls perspective.
