About Jason Shoemaker

My professional background is best summarized as applying control engineering principles to biological systems to better understand how we can bend natural systems to our liking while elucidating the information management strategies nature itself has evolved. This work can be applied to several different fields, though I am particularly fund of developing novel, cell-based energy sources and applying intracellular control strategies to risk management models in financing. Outside of the office - I like to participate with local help groups. In response to the recent earthquake here in Japan, I was happy develop the IMSUT Food drive, which provided canned foods and necessities to those affected by the March 11th, disaster.Specialties: Control engineering, chemical process engineering, systems biology, computational biology, statistics, system optimization

Research: Insulin resistance project; identifying robust therapeutics to compensate for insulin desensitization. In collaboration with Pfizer, a continuous and stochastic model of insulin signaling has been developed. These models are now being analyzed to identify optimal treatments which are robust to structural uncertainty. Developed a hybrid stochastic-Boolean model to gain insight into the Pap epigenetic switchUsed NMR and microarray data developed a mathematical model to understand the effect of endocrine disrupting compounds on steroidogenesisCollaborated with experimental biologist at the EPA and the US Army Engineer Research and Development CenterCompared varying robustness metrics to determine system fragilities in apoptotic networks
