I started Adaptive Baseline Geotechnical Ltd. in September 2021 as a means to bring my experience and expertise to clients throughout the Canadian Arctic, offering geotechnical consulting services, permafrost expertise and topographic/bathymetric surveys. As of September 2023, ABG is in the process of expanding our focus to include our home provinces throughout Atlantic Canada. I received my Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Dalhousie University in 2004 and have over 19 years of consulting experience, working on a wide variety of projects primarily throughout the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. My experience includes permafrost engineering, northern construction and logistics, foundation design, scoping projects, preparing budgets, project management, site investigations, construction monitoring, analysis of field and lab data, shallow and deep foundation design, anchor design/testing, slope stability analyses, report preparation and mentoring.My positions over the last 7 years have allowed me the opportunity to focus on some exciting initiatives and projects throughout Nunavut specifically, including:- designing and approving 90 to 95% of the foundations installed throughout Nunavut since 2018 to increase quality and provide an asbuilt baseline for future use,- installation and ongoing monitoring of an extensive series of thermistors throughout Nunavut since 2017 to better understand the effects of climate change in the ground and establish a baseline for future use,- extensive sampling and testing of shallow and deep permafrost soils throughout Nunavut since 2019 to better understand the overall stratigraphy, ice content and saline soil distribution across communities,- bedrock coring initiatives to better classify the quality and type of bedrock present throughout Nunavut,- geotechnical investigations to mitigate foundation issues due to complex permafrost thaw and drainage concerns; - community wide geohazard assessment in sporadic discontinuous permafrost, Nain, NL; - geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring for mine site infrastructure at the Snap Lake and Diavik Diamond Mines, NT; - various other geotechnical investigations and/or construction monitoring programs for deep sea ports, highways, bridges, dams, tank farms, commercial developments and subdivisions throughout the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Atlantic Canada.
