Current- Led both the student newspaper and yearbook, managed a student-run photography staff and also started William Chrisman Public Relations, a student-run public relations firm. * Have rewritten and realigned curriculum and the journalism class structure to make more student-friendly and get students more prepared for the field and to promote student involvement. * Have helped create a convergence media program with the installation of the Digital Media Pathway as part of the Independence School District’s Career Academies. * The Digital Media Pathway features a capstone class with dual-credit options and the possibility of earning an Industry Recognized Credential. * Created a student-run public relations class and firm (WCPR) which has created school-wide, district-wide and city-wide projects to promote events and programs. * Created an online daily news source that allows students to experience working at a daily paper as stories are produced daily. Have merged with social media to better work with today’s trends. * Students won numerous awards for their work at State and local competitions * Missouri Interscholastic Press Association Teacher of the Year nominee in 2012, 2013 and 2016 * 2016 Missouri Journalism Educators Association’s State Teacher of the Year Leadership Positions: - Initial Member of Implementation/Planning Team for District’s Partnership With Ford’s Next Generation Learining - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) Team Tier 1 Member - School Earned Gold Recognition - William Chrisman Arts and Education Academy Leader (Part of District’s Academy Leader Team) - 2017-Present
