After working as an editor on Morningstar's individual investor team for many years, I transitioned to product management and then data strategy because I saw an opportunity to present investing data more effectively and build more-engaging products and services that could help more people invest better and reach their financial goals. To do so as part of a mission-driven organization that has always put investors first only fueled my motivation and inspiration. Starting in the 1980s, a sea change in the way we save and invest for retirement began, as companies moved away from pension plans and increasingly adopted 401(k)s. Over the succeeding decades, the responsibility for attaining a secure retirement has shifted from companies to individuals, who now must make critical financial decisions for themselves with little education, support, or guidance.I was lucky enough in my 20s to have someone in my life who helped me get started early and make sound decisions in my first workplace retirement plan. But people shouldn't have to be lucky to make solid plans and save and invest successfully for a better future. By thoughtfully combining the best practices of user and market research to better empathize with and understand the needs of advisors, investors and savers, agile software development processes, the latest relevant technologies, and a good dose of creative problem-solving, I am inspired to help shape investment-data strategy and build engaging investment products and services that bring knowledge, empowerment, and confidence to individuals who today need financial help more than ever before.
