On Secondment from Department of Communities, Child Safety & Disability Services to the NDIA.My role as a Local Area Coordinator / Planner required the ability to conduct planning conversations, risk assessments and make reasonable and necessary decisions by providing participants and representatives with information and support to identify their goals and aspirations. Additionally this required working with participants and their families / carers to identify options to achieve their plan outcomes by drawing on informal, mainstream and community supports as well as reasonable and necessary supports to be funded by the NDIS.I was able to represent the Agency and contribute to building inclusive communities and capacity to maintain effective networks through partnership and collaboration with individuals, families / carers, local organisations, providers and the broader community.

The Role of Rural and Remote Advocate was to provide strong principled advocacy to promote, protect and defend the welfare and rights of people with a disability in Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Boulia, Normanton and Doomadgee, by being on the side of those most vulnerable.
