Initially hired as Director of Engineering, I quickly transitioned into the CTO role, driving Medefy Health’s technology strategy through seed to Series A. I scaled the engineering team from 2 to 30+ members, including software, data science, QA, and infrastructure. I also spearheaded the company’s first AI-driven healthcare solutions and introduced foundational tools such as Jira, GitHub, and build servers. Hickory is the first training software that predicts when your employees will forget and the only one that makes sure it doesn’t happen.As CTO I am responsible for all aspects of our software development team, roadmap, methodologies, architecture, and policies. I also find time to do software development alongside my team too.Key accomplished include:* Within 2 weeks of starting, I salvaged a key client relationship who had been displeased with the previous (lack of) progress on bespoke features.* Cutting hosting costs from over $5,000 monthly to approximately $1,000 monthly, while simultaneously: - Re-architecting the application and hosting setup to move from 100% utilization, to less than 25% utilized. In short, more than 4x the capacity for 1/5th the price. - Doubling the active user count - Improving API performance and scalability* An entire rewrite of the core application, delivered in an agile feature-by-feature basis – users simplyperceived an improved UI being systematically rolled out to each page on a month-by-month basis, butin reality, each page was being replaced in a new platform.* Hiring our first dedicated sales, QA, and support employees.* Managing our various consultants and contractors.* Vendor selection* Developing (and implementing) Hickory’s data retention, security, backup, and other technologypolicies.* Continually maintaining a 12- to 18-month product roadmap.* Developing, more development, and a lot more software development.

As VP of Engineering I was responsible for all aspects of our software development team, roadmap, methodologies, and policies. I also found time to do software development along side my team too.

At Halliburton I was able to apply my years of entrepreneurial experience leading teams in the Oil & Gas space to their Artificial Lift department. In this role, I lead multiple teams, on projects ranging from SCADA collection & visualization to Artificial Intelligence for monitoring the stability and health of Electronic Submersible Pumps in near-realtime. In addition to leading multiple teams, my responsibilities also included those of managing direct reports, interviewing and hiring, project planning, and facilitating with project stakeholders to ensure that the features developed worked correctly and of benefit to the business.Technologies used in the role ranged from Python & Django, Angular, React, Postgres, MySQL, to AWS and Docker.

Scout was a web and mobile platform designed to simplify and streamline the real-time collection and analysis of key metrics for the Oil & Gas Industry. Additionally, Scout had developed and supported direct data integrations with Enertia, FlowCal, Aries, PDS, Cygnet, and eLynx. In this role, I was responsible for overseeing all developers and development related activities, architecting critical components of the more than half a dozen applications supported by Scout, as well as lead developer, DBA, data warehouse engineer, system admin, and mobile developer – among other roles. Application development for Scout web, mobile, and integration components ran on a wide range of platforms, and as such the development environment was multifaceted, including to varying degrees;• Postgres, Redis, AWS, Docker, Nginx, Node.js, JavaScript, CoffeeScript, Java, Groovy, C, & Objective-CAdditional responsibilities included mentoring, training, hiring, and overseeing developers, both remote and in-house, facilitating and coordinating custom hardware development with an external embedded device vendor, as well as estimating new development efforts, assisting with new client acquisition and on-boarding through demo preparation, SOW, technical discovery, support assistance, and many other activities.

At Waterfield I brought my experience with iOS app development, software architecture, and scalable client-server systems to Waterfield's established professional services business, allowing Waterfield to begin offering native Android and iOS services to its clients.While at Waterfield I worked on projects ranging from mobile campground directory/finders, to multiple oil and gas monitoring and recording applications, with responsibilities including;• Lead the initiative to develop native iOS and Android solutions for Waterfield's numerous clients.• Actively participated in the sales process where I provided technical feedback, and first draft estimates during pre-sales to better help the sales team correctly quote opportunities both in terms of time and money.• Mentored numerous junior developers via both code reviews and informal lunch and learn sessions.• Supervised the technical work of junior developers.• Worked directly with clients on occasion, especially when the clients and projects themselves were highly technical, to ensure a timely and accurate delivery.• And, of course, plenty of development in languages such as Objective-C, Java, JavaScript, Ruby, and even a little C#.

I started Bam Ninja with the goal of creating the first comic book price guide for iOS. When Apple released in-app purchases, we were there, offering the first usage of in-app purchases for recuring price guides. Our flagship application, Zap-Kapow, was featured in a variety of trade articles, and was featured by Apple in the App Store during Comic-Con.

At SpringPoint I worked on location for a variety of SpringPoint’s clients to augment the client’s own in-house development staff. While on assignment at Williams & Williams• Supported and developed custom business solutions using Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.• Wrote custom asynchronous workflow activities in C#.• Worked directly with business users to assess their needs and requirements.• Worked to migrate the enterprise off of a custom built solution to CRM while running both systems in parallel while addressing concerns of which system is mastering which data.• Leveraged Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5, and the CRM SDK to extend the capabilities of CRM.While on assignment at Winnercomm• Supported ASP.NET/C# production websites for numerous of Winnercomm’s clients.• Performed routine database administration and on occasion performed complex data migrations.• Implemented jQuery based HTML control validation to HTML forms to increase user feedback and form responsiveness.• Developed credit card payment processes, email communication system synchronizations, content management systems, and H.R. employee management systems.• Worked closely with Winnercomm’s business management to help establish project scope estimates.While on assignment at Atlas Pipeline Mid-Content• Deployed Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (2007) and K2 blackpearl in a multi-server farm environment utilizing Kerberos based authentication against Active Directory services.• Leveraged MOSS 2007 and K2 blackpearl to adhere to SOX compliance and in general a paper-less office environment.• Developed workflows, content types, and event handlers using C#/.NET 3.5.• Converted legacy applications into custom SharePoint solutions to provide a scalable and seamless transition for business users.• Participated in change control board meeting and disaster recovery planning.

At Budgetext my responsibilities included;• Design and develop e-commerce web solutions using Visual Studio 2005, .NET 2.0, C#, ASP.NET, and AJAX.• Designed and implemented the presentation layer of the new corporate enterprise solution.• Experience working closely with business unit managers to define and gather systems requirements, estimate development effort, and devise a project plan.• Participated in the entire software lifecycle from requirements gathering, to database design, to development, and finally maintenance and support.• Carried an on-call pager in rotation with co-workers to ensure a 24/7 support coverage for live operations.• Presented software applications at both trade shows, and as a speaker at conferences in front of hundreds of attendees.• Mentored under the Software Architect where I acquired knowledge of design patterns, principals, and techniques.• Experience using Subversion source control, unit tests, and continuous integration servers.Team and solo development experience in n-tier architecture using NHibernate and Spring.NET.

I worked directly with Hytrol's engineering staff to develop a desktop configuration application for the then soon to be released EZ-Logic Gen3 smart zone controller.The desktop application targeted Windows XP and up, and allowed for the user to configure either a single or an entire convey's zone controllers via RS232 serial communications. The exact communications protocol was designed by the EZ-Logic's firmware developers, and the desktop application made use of numerous multi-byte binary commands for the purposes of configurations and diagnostics. The desktop application, device hardware, and firmware were all developed in parallel by three separate teams in a coordinated effort. As the hardware and firmware matured in advance of the launch date, so did the desktop application. This sometimes implied unexpected changes as the underlying communications protocol evolved.The desktop application was completed to Hytrol's satisfaction, and on time for the launch of the EZ-Logic Gen3 platform.
