The firm has conducted aggressive business financial turnarounds of companies and acquiring private equity for projects up to $2.4 billion dollars. Set on the Klamath River, Atkinson’s documentary A River Between Us chronicles the beginning of racial reconciliation among native peoples and the conclusion of the restoration of their river. Over the past three years, Atkinson developed and produced the film from start to finish, from concept to the White House.A published author, Atkinson’s writing has appeared in the Huffington Post, Philanthropy Northwest, GOOD and The Traveling Angler. "The Aspen Institute-Rodel Fellowships in Public Leadership program seeks to enhance our democracy by identifying and bringing together the nation’s most promising young political leaders to explore, through study and conversation, the underlying values and principles of western democracy, the relationship between individuals and their community, and the responsibilities of public leadership; to support and inspire political leaders committed to sustaining the vision of a political system based on thoughtful and civil bipartisan dialogue; and to help America’s brightest young leaders achieve their fullest potential in public service.The Aspen Institute-Rodel Fellowships in Public Leadership is a nongovernmental, nonpartisan educational program for men and women holding elective office at the state, local, or federal level. The Rodel Fellowship program provides an opportunity for our country’s young leaders to analyze and discuss historical texts and contemporary commentaries on topics such as democracy and leadership. Political neutrality is essential to the educational mission of the program and there is no identification with any political or party viewpoint and no endorsement of legislation. No lobbyists, staff members, or outside observers are permitted to attend fellowship programs. Fellows must be nominated to be considered for participation."

Elected to three consecutive four-year terms, with majority of both Republican and Democratic votes. Atkinson had a reputation for civility, love of the institution and for effectively passing legislation with bi-partisan support. He earned reputation as coalition leader and strategic planner on issues ranging from management policy of $42 billion budget to executive/legislative branch negotiations.Highlights:● Served as Deputy Majority Leader, Majority Whip and Committee Chair Business and Economic Development Committee. ● Lead and passed the Renewable Energy Portfolio standards for Oregon- which became the national model.● Worked across party lines to pass legislation on early funding of the Education Budget, Renewable Energy Policy, Hunger Relief, Natural Resources/Conservation and Tax Reform. ● Passed legislation creating the Crater Lake National Park License plate and fund which endows the Classroom at Crater Lake from the interest earned through plate sales. ● Extensive experience advocating to and negotiating issues with U.S. Congress, the Executive Branch and Federal Agencies for issues affecting Oregon. ● Administered statewide constituent services on all issues where a person has grievance, concern, or is in need of legislative remedy with State Government.● Served as trade representative to China, Japan, and Taiwan resulting in Oregon Agricultural products being sold at retail locations across Taiwan and reforestation partnerships with China.
