Jason is the General Manager of Azure Platform Architecture team within the Microsoft Azure Hardware & Infrastructure organization. He leads the team that architects and defines the hardware platforms to support the vast Azure cloud portfolio. Designing for one of the largest server fleets in the world requires platforms that are performant, scalable, and TCO optimized. His team leads the hardware architecture for Azure's AI super computers, GPU systems, compute, storage, and accelerator based systems. Jason has a passion for designing innovative solutions to difficult problems, with over 53 granted patents spanning electrical, mechanical, thermal, and data center design.He has experience in the design of: servers, rack & power, high performance flash storage systems, hard drive based storage systems, and both optical and tape archival storage. His previous role at Microsoft was leading storage hardware architecture for the Azure Storage portfolio of object, block, file, and archive platforms. Prior to Microsoft, Jason was a hardware systems engineer at Facebook where he was the technical lead for multiple storage platforms for hard drive, optical, and tape solutions. In particular, he led the Bryce Canyon system design and its contribution to the OCP community. This design supported one of the worlds largest data warehouse and object storage platforms.Prior to working in the hyperscale space, he was a storage hardware architect at Dell, and a design engineer at EMC. Jason has been heavily involved with the Open Compute Project (OCP) for over 10 years, which includes being co-chair of the OCP Storage workgroup for 4 years, and currently acting as the storage representative to the incubation committee.
