Chief spokesman for Joe Straus, State Representative from San Antonio and presiding officer of the Texas House. Develop and implement communication strategy, manage all aspects of media relations, write speeches and talking points, oversee and develop social media and all other online content, edit all correspondence from the Office of the Speaker, provide communications support and guidance to other Members of the Texas House and their staffs. Also serve as campaign spokesman and speechwriter.

Arrived at the Statesman in 2003, serving as the one person in the paper's one-person Hays County Bureau. Later moved to Capitol bureau, reporting on the state budget, public education, politics. Served as the newspaper's (final) Washington Correspondent from 2007 to 2008. Returned to the state Capitol and became chief political correspondent, political columnist and, in 2011, Capitol Bureau Chief. Oversaw coverage of Texas politics and state government while writing columns, stories and multiple blog entries per day.

Covered politics, including competitive elections for the state Legislature and Congress, as well as public education in a variety of school districts. Also wrote about a variety of higher education institutions, including Baylor University, McLennan Community College and Texas State Technical College.
