Systems Management And Development LeadNational Center For Supercomputing Applications Jul 2015 - Mar 2017http://www.lsst.org/lsst/Planning the real time pipeline, batch compute and storage infrastructures for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope project.The goal of this project is to deploy a large telescope on a Chilean mountain top and generate and distribute alerts of transients within 60 seconds. In addition, this project is predicted to generate up to 500PB of images and related data that will be distributed to science communities and the general public. This is a cross institutional effort spanning multiple decades and is currently in the construction phase. The operational phases begins 2022 and lasts for 10 years.I am responsible for understanding this large distributed system from top-to-bottom and deriving the requirements in order to design a system more than sufficient to achieve the ambitious goals of producing transient alerts to the scientific community within 60 seconds of taking the image with 98% accuracy and availability and providing the scientific community with data access to the 500PB of image-related data within 24 hours of image generation. -

RAIT provides up to 8 blocks of redundancy in a RAID 6 rotated-parity fashion across tape.Designed, developed and support the UberFS managed file system that serves as a frontend to the 5PB archive. UberFS provides a file system interface for Hierarchial Storage Manager (HSM) software which makes it simpler to integrate commercial off the shelf products into this storage environment. UberFS manages data flow between the upper tier XFS file system and the underlying HSM by servicing DMAPI events.Designed and development UberFTP, the only interactive command line file transfer program based upon the GridFTP protocol.Support researchers in their efforts to make efficient use of the archive.
