Chief Technology Officer for the startup organisation myBeepr developing tools to provide a secure messaging platform for healthcare professionals. Managing both the ongoing support for product in market as well as guiding a development team to develop new products.

Jason is the manager of the engineering team within the Networks Product Engineering group responsible for developing a range of new products in the IOT space. In this role, Jason has directed the strategic goals for the engineering team, the technology and delivery of Telstra Track & Monitor and Telstra Locator. The products make use Telstra networks assets to provide a service to locate and manage assets over BLE, Wi-fi and CAT-M1 networks. These products are built on Microsoft Azure PaaS platforms to deliver a scalable and affordable platform to manage and ingest data from IOT products sold to Telstra customers. The solution makes use of Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL Service Fabric, CosmosDB, Application Insights, EventHub, IoTHub, IoTHub Edge, Xamarin and Stream Analytics. The product was trailed with Telstra staff for 6 months and recently launched to the public via a Mobile application in the Apple and Google app stores.

Jason has been the manager of the Mobile Engineering team within the Platforms Digital Engineering group. In this role, Jason has developed the strategic direction for the engineering team, the technology and delivery of the Telstra leading self-service mobile application. Jason introduced a successful strategy to move all testing of products developed by the team to an automated platform. Jason has also played a key role in developing a new technology and product line within Telstra for the Internet of Things market place. Jason has been the principal architect for the design and delivery strategy for a product that will be host in the Microsoft Azure cloud environment with the capability to service over 20 billion transactions per day from IOT devices. Jason has also been responsible for managing and engaging with stakeholders across the many platforms/products the team has provided the engineering capability to. Jason has negotiated and managed vendor relationships within the partner model employed by the Digital Engineering team making use of both onshore and offshore vendors to augment the delivery capability for the team. Jason has delivered on his key KPIs operating within budgets. Jason has successfully managed the team’s financial budget contributing to the Digital Engineering group’s overall operation within the specified targets.

In various contracts, Jason has been developing applications for a prestigious client base, including Compaq Australia, Toshiba Australia and MobileSoft Pty Limited.

Delivering a solution using Windows Sharepoint Services V2, K2.net and Microsoft ASP.net to provide a document management system.

Jason has been working on an in-house portfolio tool to be used by Andrew West customers to manage their investments. The tool was developed using Microsoft .Net 2003 technology leveraging the most recent release of Microsoft Enterprise Application Blocks. Andrew West already has a competent .Net team and established standards that Jason has easily adopted.

Employed as an expert in .Net technology, Jason was contracted to assist Bigpond’s internal development team to deliver business applications. Recently there has been a management decision to discontinue investment into .Net applications, instead favouring open-source Java development programs. Jason has been actively involved in the Design and delivery phase of the large Rebuild project within Bigpond Front of House systems, together with prototyping high risk technologies. He has quickly adapted to using the Eclipse Java development environment, creating a leading edge application using open-source Services Oriented Architecture (SOA).

Jason played a lead role in a small team tasked with re-developing an existing tool using VB.Net. The tool was one of the in-house analytical tools used by the fixed interest investment team to gather information about the market place. The project made use of .Net technologies including Remoting, ADO.Net, COM+, COM and Windows Forms. The design made use of visual inheritance to minimise recoding repetitive visual elements The back end for this system used Microsoft SQL Server and BizTalk 2002 Server. As a senior team technical team member Jason was required to do much of the database development work. Only a small number of the team had used .Net prior to working on this project and Jason’s experience with the .Net environment proved invaluable assisting his peers master this technology. Jason provided mentoring and advice to other teams also using .Net, assisting them to deliver their projects and solve problems.

Jason was required to develop an application framework to enable the development staff to deliver projects using the Microsoft .Net 2003 development suite. The framework was essential to provide a platform from which business objects could be developed to create an application, eliminating the need for the development team to focus on areas such as security, logging and performance. As the staff at TransACT had little or no experience with .Net Jason was also required to mentor the staff and educate them in development practices using the Microsoft C# tools. Jason committed to ensure that the first project developed using this toolset would be delivered on time, and performed much of the development work for this Local Number Portability project. Jason worked along-side TransACT development staff ensuring that knowledge transfer took place and that they would be able to maintain this application.

Jason was required to deliver a document management application leveraging Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server. Jason was required to deliver documentation and code in both Web parts based on the traditional Dashboard architecture and .Net custom components. Jason used VBScript, Java Script, XML, XSL and Microsoft VB.Net to deliver application components as specified in the customers requirements documentation.

Jason was required to perform a review of an implemented design developed using Visual Basic 6 and Visual Basic .Net technologies. The short contract had Jason in Brisbane at the office of a government agency commenting on general coding standards, performance and errors. Jason had to show respect and remain sensitive to feelings of the developers who had been through several code reviews during the life of the project. Jason was able to identify many areas of the code that could be improved, some as a matter of priority or that caused a logic error in the code. The client was happy with the findings and the level of involvement Jason provided to identify and assist in rectifying problems and advising of best practices to be followed on future projects.

Jason was responsible for expanding the company’s core product suite, as well as contributing to overall architectural design. Jason has been involved with two projects, one to re-factor the design to a more object-oriented model for a core component; and the other, an ongoing development of existing product using C# and VB. Jason assimilated well into the teams he worked with, adapting to the very close team structures involved with peer-programming. Jason works with C#, VB, Managed C++ and SQL server. The technologies employed in this design included .Net remoting, Runtime Callable Wrappers, .Net Com Interop, .Net pInvoke to native API functions, binary serialization of objects to proprietary data stores and custom wrappers for existing COM objects using managed C++. Citect employs Xtreme Programming (XP) methodology and maintains a high level of commitment to quality development programs.

In this high-visibility contract to one of Australia’s leading financial institutions, Jason provided architectural design expertise together with solid and well established development and test procedures. Project methodologies included standard Waterfall development, and Rapid Application Development (RAD).Jason worked on two projects – the eCommerce start-up in Japan and the Infrastructure Re-engineering project in the United Kingdom selling .Net technology to business units as a platform for delivering eCommerce projects. In both cases, Jason was sent overseas as an Architect to work on the client site – to gather and analyse systems development requirements and determine scope – then return to the lead the project development team based in Sydney for Design, Development and Test.

Jason designed and developed a web based calculator, using formula provided by the customer, to be incorporated into their existing web site. The project required sound understanding of Visual Basic, ASP, HTML, Javascript and TSQL programming for a Microsoft SQL server database. Jason was required to work to a fixed price for delivery and a tight deadline with changing requirements. Despite these constraints, the customer’s expectations were met and well exceeded.

Jason was responsible for design, development and implementation of software solutions including database, HTML, ASP, WML, Visual Basic Applications and Windows NT Service design and implementation. As the lead software engineer in the Sydney office, Jason was often called upon to provide technical sales support to the sales team (also based in Sydney). Jason has designed several solutions that have been successfully implemented, using the available resource in both the Sydney and Melbourne teams. Jason is a role model and team leader for programming staff - having overall technical responsibility for the outcome of all software development projects undertaken by the company managing the delivery throughout the SDLC. Where Mobilesoft was not capable of delivering functionality Jason was required to perform a consulting role providing valuable information to clients enabling them make informed decisions.

Jason trained as an Avionics Technician for the RNZAF. Jason then changed trade as a Pilot.
