Aeroacoustics EngineerTrinity College Dublin Sep 2014 - Sep 2017DublinDeveloped robust, validated software to predict and reduce aeroacoustic airfoil noise from wind turbines in urban settings. The tool was able to predict broadband noise under various operating conditions and for multiple geometries. The code was able to use CFD results as input to the noise models, which improved modelling accuracy.Responsible for noise predictions for the EU FP7 SWIP Project, a multinational collaboration aimed at reducing barriers for wind turbine penetration in Europe. Wrote a tool to predict broadband noise for contra-rotating open rotors. Validated the predictions against existing test data, and predicted directivity. Presented this work at an AIAA conference. -

Developed a MATLAB program that interfaced with a vortex lattice method to analyse a wing planform at a given operating condition. A Genetic Algorithm was implemented to numerically optimise the design based on mission criteria.Manufactured a 1:1 scale model of the final design and tested it at the CSIR Low-Speed Windtunnels. Implemented a novel method for flow visualisation by making use of thermal cameras. Results showed good validation of lift performance and separation point prediction. -
