POET is a 501(c)3 non-profit with a mission to promote ocean-based climate solutions. POET builds on the excellent work, knowledge, and relationships developed since 2007 by the Oregon Wave Energy Trust. POET has expanded on OWET's foundations, to provide a regional voice to help make clean energy from the oceans a reality. It has maintained OWET's focus on promoting the responsible development of marine renewables, but it also focus on all forms of marine renewables throughout the western region, including floating offshore wind, wave, tidal, and ocean current technologies. We are also exploring the opportunities of green hydrogen and marine based carbon dioxide removal technologies. POET is working to bring together the region's diverse communities of interest around the oceans and coastline, and to have these stakeholders work together to responsibly develop the growth of clean, safe, and affordable energy from the oceans. These stakeholders include the marine energy technology and development companies, environmental groups, labor, academic, government, and interested public.POET also works with federal, state and local authorities to develop regulations that provide protection of the ocean and its users, while ensuring a clear and reasonable path for permitting. Building on the work of OWET, POET will continue to help develop and disseminate the type of information necessary to better understand the potential effects of ocean renewable energy.
