I love starting movements. I love building teams. I love seeing brilliant work delivered brilliantly by brilliant people. As Director of Test and Trace's Community and Local Services, I co-led the effort to deliver social, mental and physical support via local and regional health and care teams throughout the pandemic, including trialling radical new ways to help people through Covid and self-isolation. We set up whole pathways to support people through mental and financial hardship, and made sure millions of people weren't out of pocket when they couldn't go to work. As Director of Products, I'm proud that the NHS Covid-19 app we built and ran averted over 1 million cases and saved over 5,000 lives.Since the pandemic, I've been helping Government to improve our resilience to existential threats, at the Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser.Before T&T, I was interim director at Snook, the service design agency. I co-led #GovZero, facilitating relationships between the mobile network operators, DHSC and NHS to ensure that online NHS services became freely available for everyone in the UK - even the 7m people without data on their phones. I helped Snook scale carefully and diversely, and supported £6m new biz with the Home Office and the Department of Education to further improve Government's capacity and capability.I spent 3 years leading the transformation of Barnardo's, one of the UK's most influential children's social care agencies, so that it can start to deliver services and life outcomes for children, families and social workers which are fit for the digital age. I grew the transformation team from 4 to 140, incorporating design, data and technology alongside digital transformation. Along the way we put in place new staff tech, new service design principles, and a new culture of innovation, to empower and enable our 30,000 colleagues. Previously, I helped set up the Institute for Apprenticeships, produced 'Exporting is GREAT' as CDTO at UKTI (now DBT, the Department for Business and Trade), and led the UK Department of Health's 2015-2020 digital strategy. I'm a 2* senior civil servant and board director who loves to solve wicked problems with passion and empathy. The teams I've built and run have delivered £billions in income for individuals and small businesses, saved Government £millions, saved thousands of lives, and given millions of hours back in productivity.I’m proud to be a vulnerable leader who champions equality and opportunity, sets a bold and ambitious vision, and empowers brilliant teams to achieve lasting impact.
