Like many recent college graduates, since the beginning of this Pandemic many doors have closed for me. However, a new found passion in computers is driving me to do something that I have only ever considered as a passing thought; to pursue a career in IT, specifically in the field of machine learning.My educational background suggests that I have expertise in other areas (mostly life-sciences), however for the past 6 months I have immersed myself in the world of IT. I started off teaching myself the technicalities of programming via Python. I then moved onto understanding the ins and outs of the Linux operating systems. Since I began learning these basic concepts I went from wanting to pursue a career in cybersecurity to now having a deep desire to pursue a career in machine learning. However, I am someone who, until quarantine, have never had any interest in computers. It is because of this that I decided to first get a solid foundation that will allow me to appreciate the more complex technologies that I will be learning in the future.My first accomplishment in this regard was passing the CompTIA Linux+ exam on my first attempt in September of this year. Feeling this immense burst of gratification and motivation, I immediately began studying for the CompTIA Networking+ exam, which I am proud to say I also passed on my first attempt on the first of December. Currently, I am studying for the AWS Solutions Architect Associate exam. During my studies, I have continued teaching myself how to create scripts with Python and how to incorporate those scripts with various technologies and applications, such as personal websites, Discord API (social media platform), and the Arduino (microcontroller).I am dedicated to pursue a career in the field of machine learning/data science, but unfortunately my work experience is a huge obstacle that I will need to overcome. Fortunately, one of my best strengths is my ability to learn fast. This has granted me the opportunity to gain the skills that I have so far, such as familiarity with linux operating systems, networking, virtualization, bash scripting, and python. After I acquired the foundation skills I set out for myself, I began learning machine learning/data science concepts and technologies. Specifically, I have begun familiarizing myself with the the following python libraries: scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, matplotlib, and tensorflow.My goal is to play an active role in advancing the fields on machine learning/deep learning that will improve the lives of everyone in the world.
