In 2020 I began teaching a 3-day a week semester course to 11th graders on Career Skills. Over two years we had so many incredible and talented guest speakers from all over, even though I am a bit biased to Hospitality and Tourism (even if it has sadly been hit hard this past year). My goal is to get the students excited about working and even better yet if they get a foot in the door in hospitality and tourism if that is their desire/passion. When I began working as a teen for my dad's family ice cube business (sounds funny I know) and then at our local YMCA and later teaching college PE classes, I knew I loved working with people and that is why I love this industry so much. In fall 2020 we did 50 events in 9 days during Covid-19! Yes, with teamwork, careful planning, distancing and help we were able to meet between 6 locations and filling near 9,500 sleeping rooms. I am reminded how blessed I am and how much I truly do love my job in the service driven hospitality industry and can't think of a better group of people to work with each and every day. I am a hospitality professional with over 15 years of conference planning and meeting management experience. My focus is on large group meeting management, site selection, contract negotiation, event registration, hotel room reservations, event planning and networking, all with a focus on customer service. In 2014 I was honored as a recipient of Rejuvenate magazine’s “40 Under 40” awards. In 2017 I was presented an Oklahoma City Hometown Heroes Tourism award. In 2020 I was a part of the first group to receive the CFMP (Certified Faith-Based Meeting Professional) designation and also completed the Hospitality & Tourism Management certificate course offered by Dr. Peter Ricci and FL Atlantic Univ. My main responsibility is planning our annual U.S. regional conference for 3,000 attendees between5-6 simultaneous locations, which bring a combined estimated economic impact of near $6 million annually. During these conferences, our group fills over 9,000 sleeping room nights annually. Between these conferences we also host over 50 F&B events. Throughout the years, we have hosted our regional conferences and events in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, KY, MT, NH, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, WA, WI & WV.I enjoy networking with other hospitality professionals and those from any industry. LinkedIn has helped me to connect and network with so many wonderful colleagues. I encourage you to contact me any time at jrcocomise@pcog.org. I look forward to connecting!
