I am currently the Systems Engineering Division Manager at Aurora Flight Sciences, A Boeing Company, and was formerly the Humans and Autonomy Group Lead. I graduated from MIT with a PhD from the Humans and Automation Lab (HAL), where I studied the interactions between humans and automated systems (both physical and software systems). As Aurora is a matrix organization, I have also held multiple different technical roles on programs alongside the functional management, having served as an individual contributor, a team lead (for both systems and human factors), a deputy program manager for a moderately-sized program, a chief systems engineer on that same program, and a program manager for a pair of small programs. I was the founding Group Lead for a remade Systems Engineering Group in 2018 and eventually transitioned to its Division Manager, helping (with the aid of a lot of awesome staff) to grow the Division to 30 heads across systems engineering and safety, while continuing to serve as a SME in systems engineering, safety, and human factors.My background is in aerospace engineering, and my past graduate work addressed the design of interfaces that allow individual users to plan and coordinate tasks among a team of manned and unmanned vehicles. Part of this task is understanding the visualization of information to the system supervisor, who must use this information to determine the correct course of action. Another aspect of this research address modeling and simulation to examine the overall effectiveness of a variety of different implementation of autonomy and automation. My research and employment interests center on the design of these, and other, systems, either in the development of unmanned systems (aerial and otherwise) or in the visualization of complex information to stakeholders.
