Executive Director, National Gastroenterology And Hepatology Program
Current-Oversee policy and operations related to gastroenterology and hepatology care for Veterans-Serve as subject matter expert on gastroenterology-related issues for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This includes advising national, regional and local VHA leadership and clinicians on policies and procedures related to gastroenterology services. Director, National Colorectal Cancer Screening Program
CurrentThe Veterans Health Administration's National Colorectal Cancer Screening Program supports a variety of efforts related to colorectal cancer screening in the VA. This includes the recent effort to offer programmatic screening of average risk Veterans with a mailed fecal immunochemical test (FIT). Other efforts include oversight of the national colorectal cancer screening and surveillance reminder system and the VA endoscopic quality improvement program.

Current-Colonoscopy vs. Fecal Immunochemical Test for Reduction in Mortality from Colorectal Cancer (CONFIRM) is a VA Cooperative Study that is recruiting 50,000 Veterans at average risk for colorectal cancer. Participants will be randomized to either one-time screening colonoscopy or annual fecal immunochemical testing and will be followed annually to determine cancer outcomes. Douglas Robertson, MD, MPH is also a Co-Chair.
