As a recent graduate of the Smith Queen’s MBA program, with 20 years experience, I am looking forward to opportunities to work with teams focused on outputs in a creative environment.I cut my teeth on tour backstage resolving technical production issues within the count-down pressure of the immovable curtain time. I continue to use daily, many of the skills I learned there like the ability to efficiently build trust, to understand competing interests in a variety of cultural contexts, and to appreciate, harness and support the passion and drive of brilliant creators working with finite resources to achieve their visions.As a student of business, I apply strategic frameworks to ensure the right approaches are used to achieve optimal outcomes. I have a passion for examining, pulling-apart and building back better, the structures that support work in the non-profit and cultural sectors including governance models, teams, production processes, and resource systems.I thrive on teams where I can both learn and teach. I love to coach, share knowledge, and meteor; however, when building a team, I actively seek out colleagues who are “smarter than me.” I truly believe that a diversity of lived experience is essential for a team to be successful.I have had the privilege of working with colleagues from around the world with widely diverse experience. My own identity as a queer kid growing up in rural Saskatchewan has provided me with an embodied understanding of what it is to be “othered” and an appreciation for the uniqueness that each artist, cultural worker, audience member or colleague brings. As a practitioner I endeavor to work against the oppressive systems that are imbedded in our institutions, and I strive to deepen my own understanding through both formal training and productive dialogue.In addition to professional work, I continue to build on my experience as a volunteer leader on the board of the Vancouver International Children’s Festival.
