Lead Mechatronics EngineerGoogle Deepmind Sep 2021 - Feb 2024London, London, GbAs the Lead Mechatronics Engineer for the Google Deepmind Robotics Operations Team, I supervised a team of approximately 10-12 engineers, directing their efforts across multiple research-focused projects, such as quadrupeds, single and bimanual armed robots, autonomous warehouse delivery robots, and various self-learning robots.• My responsibilities included setting up, managing, and leading scrums, standups, and retrospectives for around 8-10 projects simultaneously. I also provided mentorship to junior engineers and technicians, focusing on their skill and career development to enhance the overall team's ability and capability for more efficient project completion and operational effectiveness.• I mostly concentrated my personal engineering skills on a quadruped platform for both agile and assistive research, contributing to its advancement.• Furthermore, I orchestrated our transition to the Google X (RLS) building, taking charge of planning, designing, and outfitting all of the lab spaces and shops. I handled the procurement, sourcing, purchase, and setup of the machine shop for the organization, which included both manual and CNC mills, lathes, and routers to facilitate in-house fabrication and project construction. -
Co-Founder / InventorBrailletooth Mar 2015 - Jun 2021• Conceived during a Hackathon in 2015, BrailleTooth was an IoT Braille Bluetooth keyboard that was fully developed from my living room. • BrailleTooth was an effort dedicated to developing and producing accessibility products for the blind and visually impaired. I designed and created Braille Bluetooth Keyboards that could function as part of a phone case for both Android and Apple smartphones, or as a standalone, wallet-sized device that could be connected to any Bluetooth-enabled device, such as a tablet, phone, or computer, and utilized as a fully functional keyboard and navigation tool.• Transformed the hackathon prototype into a minimum viable product (MVP) within 3 months and made it market-ready within 6 months, leading to a successful beta rollout at a local school for the blind. The product ultimately evolved into an open-source, community-based philanthropic accessibility device for the blind, and eventually spun off into a successful company named, "Hable." (Which I have nothing to do with, just gave them my blessing to use my IP).• Published all device intellectual property (IP) to the public domain and open-source community to encourage further development, aiming to keep costs as low as possible for end-users. This approach resulted in the production, manufacturing, and distribution of over 1000+ units worldwide, all on a purely non-profit basis. -
First Hire - Start-Up EngineerFuse Jul 2018 - Mar 2020San Leandro, Ca, UsAs the first hire of a Nuclear Fusion R&D Start-up outside of Quebec, Canada, I eventually assumed the role of President and Lead Engineer, overseeing all day-to-day operations of the company, from financials to infrastructure. I was responsible for interviewing over 100 candidates and making hiring decisions to assemble a well-rounded team.• Collaborated closely with three Ph.D. Nuclear Fusion researchers, providing them with the support and resources necessary to design, manufacture, and conduct their experiments.• Took on various roles, including sourcing and securing a 33,000 square foot facility for the company to commence operations. I designed the layout of the facility, encompassing living spaces, working areas, experimental spaces, and a machine shop. Additionally, I obtained a Class-A CDL and purchased a semi-truck to attend liquidation auctions, acquiring used machines and equipment with the aim of maximizing our runway.• Departed from the company at the onset of the 2020 Pandemic due to border shutdowns and Canadian visa issues. -
