Responsible to the Commanding Officer for the operational availability and safety of the Submarine including the nuclear steam raising plant and crew.• Including the oversight of testing and commissioning activities for a pressurised water reactor and submarine support systems.• Leading the Marine Engineering Department during the period of assuming operational control of submarine systems and equipment.• Submarine systems consist of high pressure air, hydraulics, electrical Distribution, ventilation & air conditioning, air purification CO2 scrubbers, electrolysers et al.• Head of the Marine Engineering Department of 56 personnel and Divisional Officer to 5 graduate engineers.

Responsible for the PSR at HMNB Clyde, ensuring compliance with the Defence Nuclear Regulatory requirements. Authoring and implementing a 10 year rolling programme of nuclear safety review. Responsibilities included control and scrutiny of the annual PSR budget plus strategy and process development.• Initiated the first rolling programme of PSR at HMNB Clyde. Identified the optimal sequence of facility review. Engaging all key stakeholders and gaining acceptance of the intended programme from the interfacing bodies before endorsement from the Defence Nuclear Regulator.• Achieved the successful award of 11 individual contracts from the MoD. By building good working relationships and with strong negotiation skills contracts were awarded in time to ensure continuity of resource and momentum to enable timely delivery of the PSR programme commitments.• All projects during three year tenure were delivered on time and to budget. With key personnel having polar opinions and characters, good man management skills were essential in ensuring the success of the projects.• Developed strategies and processes which will provide a platform for future success of the PSR programme. Strategies authored included the overall management of the PSR, management of findings and contract strategy. Processes included contractual approval, report approval and project review.

Responsible for the administration, organisation and management of the Marine Engineering Department on board a UK Nuclear Deterrent Submarine. Divisional Officer to eight Senior Technicians. Responsible for the successful and timely completion of maintenance periods.• Joined HMS Vigilant during a period of turmoil and a demanding and unique sequence of maintenance on the nuclear steam raising plant. Operational commitment dates were met despite these challenging circumstances.• As head of the whole ship's training department, galvanised a crew and by strong man management and motivational leadership played a key role in HMS Vigilant achieving a good safety assessment.
