Jason began selling classified advertising space primarily for the Gardening How-To magazine (1 of 8 in-house titles) and toward the end of his tenure was responsible for run of book advertising for the east coast. In his first two years, Jason grew the 1/4-page classified business to over eight pages while increasing revenue for that section 20 fold and then added 10 new run of book advertisers before leaving the position. By the time Jason left, the magazine had become one of the top advertising players in the industry but because the amount of travel that was required began to weigh on him, he decided to reapply his skill set as a residential real estate agent.

Jason worked as a full time Promotions Assistant reporting directly to the Promotions Coordinator, who reported to the Promotions Director. Since the position expectations changed on a daily basis, a great amount of range and creativity was required. Examples included hosting a grand opening for an advertiser, running the State Fair or Taste of Minnesota booth, coordinating contests and prizes, driving the "Party Pontune" around area lakes - you name it, he did it. While this position was a lot of fun (and work) and afforded great experience working with the public and with salespersons while gaining great advertising sales and promotions experience, the position was more or less entry level and he was ready for a change.
