I grew up hearing successful sales people described like this - “He could sell ice to eskimos!” or “She could sell a ketchup popsicle to a man in a white suit!” I couldn’t wait to learn the sales skills so I could do the same. But…it didn’t take long for me to realize that kind of selling is down right manipulative. My purpose as a salesperson is to identify opportunities that create mutual value. If the the mutual value isn’t there, we’re probably better as friends than partners.I've sold hiking boots, insurance, car cleaning supplies, rain barrels, a college experience, energy drinks, beer, and wine.
