A born networker and serial entrepreneur, Jason Angeles has launched several dessert concepts in the Bay Area. In 2011, he launched Frozen Kuhsterd, a successful frozen dessert food truck in San Francisco. In 2013, he co-founded Sugar and Spun, a gourmet cotton candy company with distribution across the United States and Canada. In 2015, he co-founded his recent project, Hookt Doughnuts, now a permanent trailer in Mission Bay (San Francisco).For this new venture, IVSF, Jason takes his logistics expertise and sales background to help book and execute small to large scale events.

"Sugar & Spun takes a new spin on cotton candy that provides an unconventional, nostalgic, and fun experience for adults and children alike." Once upon a time… Jason Angeles (co-founder) was watching the movie Shrek. As Shrek and Fiona were walking through a field, Fiona sees cobwebs laced with bugs. She grabs a stick and weaves it into a cotton candy like dessert for Shrek. At that moment, Jason wondered why cotton candy doesn’t have ingredients weaved in. That was the “ah-ha” moment. Fast forward to 2013, Jason tied up with other businesses, was seeking to launch this innovative application to cotton candy. He reached out to Justin Isip and Nathaniel Villegas to co-found the business, Sugar & Spun in June 2013. The team was recently expanded in November 2013 to four with the addition of Anthony Nudo. Our focus is to change the way you perceive cotton candy. With the use of only all natural and organic ingredients, we weave in dry toppings and powders to complete flavors that you’ve never seen with cotton candy. Gone are the days of boring and overly sweet blue or pink cotton candy. The new standard includes flavors like Salted Chocolate Peanut Butter, Li Hing Pineapple, Spicy Mango, Cookie Butter, and Nutella Strawberries & Bananas just to name a few. With our company moving at a rapid pace, our next goal is to get onto grocery store shelves. In the meantime, you can find us at various pop-up markets and festivals throughout the Bay Area, as well as several other sell through locations like Boba Guys and Kabuki Theatre.

In late 2010, founder, Jason Angeles was recently laid off from his corporate IT job and was looking to join the street food movement that was taking off in San Francisco. During a brainstorm session with a friend, frozen custard came up as something that didn’t exist in the Bay Area. He took a leap of faith, booked a 2 week trip to St. Louis to do further research and take a frozen custard class. After the trip, the decision was made to bring frozen custard to San Francisco with a local twist. Frozen custard has a slightly egg yolk content and has a low overrun (inflation) in comparison ice cream. The end result is a denser and creamier frozen dessert. The focus of Frozen Kuhsterd is to use local, natural and organic ingredients in crafting the classic and unique flavors. The spelling of Kuhsterd is derived from the phonetic spelling of custard, according to Dictionary.com.Frozen Kuhsterd was initially launched at the Underground Market in April 2011 as a table/cart vendor. After a chance meeting with Chef Tim Luym in early 2012, Frozen Kuhsterd was expanded to a partnership and became California’s first frozen custard food truck. Team Frozen Kuhsterd consists of founder, Jason Angeles and partners - Alex Lam, Tim Luym, and Justin Sakurai. Our flavors, sundaes and sandwiches are inspired from our own ethnic backgrounds and foods that we’ve eaten around the world. Some would say we’re crazy, but we think we are setting new standards in the frozen dessert segment. Our unique offerings have made us the highest rated food truck in San Francisco, according to Yelpers.
