The 853rd Engineer Aviation Battalion played a key role in the success of the Twentieth Air Force mission in the China-Burma-India theater of war during World War II. Only in existence for 3 years and 3 days, the 853rd battled numerous hardships from training, to having their troopship (HMT Rohna) sunk in the Mediterranean where they lost over 60% of their personnel, to re-forming, and honorably serving in the Assam Region of India building runways for the B-29. This work is dedicated to telling their stories for generations to come.
