Water main Construction Inspection Sept. 2012-Dec. 2013Inspect water main installation throughout the city of Chicago while enforcing City, State and Federal Construction Specifications. Inspection includes ductile iron water main, fire hydrants, connections and water service transfer. Daily documentation of construction activity, coordination with homeowners and Aldermanic groups, and communication with management regarding construction problems or issues with neighboring public.

Gathered GPS field data; including buried high voltage cable routes, transformer locations, and splice box & junction box locations. Also conducted QC/QA to ensure completed work followed contract specifications. Maintained a safe work environment that adhered to Zero Injury Program requirements; promoting over 150 days of zero reportable injuries. Responsible for documenting daily work progress, daily & weekly budget reports and detailed material usage information. Provided recommendations to management related to streamlining documentation methods and procedures.

Conducted field inspection and approved payment of work completed by contractors. This included conducting density tests to determine compaction of backfill and sub-base material and material sampling of bituminous asphalt and Portland cement concrete. Communicated with MDOT personnel, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure projects were meeting MDOT specifications. I was exposed to many aspects of scheduling, communication of project needs, testing procedures, and design requirements while working with professional engineers and engineer technicians at MDOT.
